Last week I had the pleasure of speaking on Career Trends for upcoming high school and college graduates. The event was hosted by Doug MacFarland at Baird Financial Advisors in Roseville. I’d like to thank Joanna Jullien, for writing about my presentation and the need for social media reputation management for tweens and young adults. I appreciate her insights on the important topic of devices and parenting. You can find more about Joanna and her expertise here.
My presentation focused on the latest career trends and how they can impact emerging leaders as well as savvy professionals. I thought I’d share highlights of my presentation in a Career Trends blog series.
CAREER TREND #1: BRANDING-
Define your passion through self assessment. Your passion isn’t bestowed upon you as you graduate college, instead most people identify it as they go through many life experiences. Through these experiences, you can learn what you like to do, with whom and where. Ask yourself the following questions to hone in on your ideal career. Reflect on your career experiences and identify the one you most enjoyed.
What skills do you like using?
What setting do you want to work in?
Who do you want to work with?
How do you want to set your apart from other professionals?
Can you translate your brand into a 30 second pitch?
These are just a few of the questions that come up when I work with clients to find their ideal career path.
