The Career Trends series has covered branding, social media and ensuring your social media reputation, and building credibility. In this fifth and final segment, I wanted to share about one of the most important of the Career Trends Series- The NEW Resume.
The resume is your #1 tool to open up doors to interviews. With the evolution of technology, LinkedIn and online applicant tracking systems, resumes have changed and savvy jobseekers should take note.
Employers want proof of your skills in quantitative form- think numbers and data! Your resume should be targeted to your ideal position, giving examples of how you’ve been successful in the past. Focus on the proof that motivates the recruiter to contact you. Speak to the needs of the employer. How do you do that? You research the position, the people and the company. Check out their company website, review the company page on LinkedIn. Review who you know that may know more about the company.
Once you are armed with the needs of the company, tailor your career documents to speak to those needs and how you can solve them. Showcase your skills and experiences in a way that will attract the employer’s attention. Include your branding statement on your resume- make it easy for the employer to know what type of role you are seeking.
